The prepackaged version of scipy is 0.11.0, but the latest is 0.12.0 now. When doing a pip install scipy --upgrade on my linux machine, the installer complains about needing an -fPIC flag for BLAS and LAPACK compilation. However, the install is referencing the correct libs for both of these, and they did appear to use -fPIC flag at install time.
