After a number of discussions between me, @juxtaposicion and PeterB from Rockstar (rockstar.googlecode.com), we've come to the following workflow for allowing Rockstar to be called from yt:

# Add an INSTALL_ROCKSTAR option to the install script, which downloads and applies any yt-specific patches.
# Patch the halo info (config settings override) to include a yt-specific halo ID
# Print out citation information (which should be extended to other modules in yt)
# Add a filtering to the data source fed into the Rockstar halo finder to ensure that only particles of a single mass are fed in.
# Add halo analysis function functionality
