[yt-dev] Request for review: SDF

Hi all,

The SDF pull request that Sam, Mike and I have been working on for a
while is now ready for review:

The paper we put out that uses this and uses examples from it is here:

really great to get feedback and figure out what is necessary for this
to go in.
