Quick question, Stephen.
Does your code enter the barrier before the populate_hierarchy call?
If it's in debug log mode, it will say so. Do *all* the processors
enter this *particular* barrier? Has hte hierarchy been instantiated
before, and is it perhaps trying to load/save it in the .yt file?
